Youghiogheny River watershed in Garrett County, Maryland.

In "Camping on the
Youghiogheny," one of a pair of poems, the speaker describes: "the Yough/ whose death-trap water-knots/ have claimed drunks, kayakers, lovers ..." The companion poem, "Camping on the Hudson," evokes a time when "Ships came up through the Narrows/ and busted their hulls on the jagged edges." These paired poems include references to Henry Hudson and Frank Lloyd Wright, as well as reflections on class conflict and the consolations of solitude.
