Sim·fer·o·pol
(sĭm′fə-rō′pəl) A city of southern Ukraine in southern Crimea northeast of Sevastopol. Originally settled by Scythians, it was under Tatar rule from the 15th to the 18th century and was annexed by Russia in 1784. It became part of the Ukrainian SSR in 1954.
