A lunar landscape without the softening of the phenomena of chiaro-oscuro could not be rendered by an earthly landscape painter; it would be spots of ink on a white page-- nothing more.
While awaiting the official announcement of dinner, the company were sauntering on the terrace above the river, and gazing at the water-plants, the mosaic of the currents, and the various pretty details of the houses clustering across the river, their old wooden galleries, their mouldering window- frames, their little gardens where clothes were drying, the cabinet- maker's shop,--in short, the many details of a small community to which the vicinity of a river, a weeping willow, flowers, rose-bushes, added a certain grace, making the scene quite worthy of a landscape painter.
"As a child, I grew up around a lot of my father's landscape paintings, which really fascinated me," says Fressinier, whose father was a skilled landscape painter, as well as a renowned portrait photographer.
When he left school,Robinson wanted to be a landscape painter. But this didn't pay thebills, so he turned to book illustration on such famous tomes as The Water Babies and Hans Christian Andersen's Fairy Tales.
Headlining the show is professional landscape painter Paul Talbot-Greaves from Calderdale, who has written guides to the watercolour genre, with a selection of his bold, colourful works.
