Mai Mala Buni of Yobe said the state government would establish
shelter belts, woodlots, and plantations in the affected areas to check desertification.
This could be in the form of planting along watercourses or in

shelter belts that dot the prairies and stop the soil from blowing.
The scheme will encourage farmers in the upper reaches of the River Clwyd to plant new and restore old hedges, create small woodlands,
shelter belts and streamside corridors, and use "leaky log" dams on hillside streams to hold back the surges of water that can cause disruptive floods.
The initiative, which also involves the creation of
shelter belts and streamside corridors, mirrors the pioneering work of the Pontbren group of farmers near Llangadog, Powys.
"Nearby views from the A811 are broken up by landscape features such as plantations,
shelter belts, boundary trees and hedging and farm houses and buildings.
The environmental work has also benefited the farming side of the business, with
shelter belts created.
They are being used to simulate how real flocks respond to weather conditions and the effectiveness of trees and "
shelter belts" of rows of trees or shrubs in protecting them.
Add to all of this the crazy EU policies which take away payments from farmers when they work to drain floodwaters naturally by planting sensible, environmentally-friendly
shelter belts of trees, which Brussels bureaucrats class as "unwanted vegetation" and you have a recipe for disaster.
Farmers have been plowing up prairie grass, draining wetlands and bulldozing
shelter belts in a rush to get even more corn in the ground.
Following that, you can decide whether or not to construct elements like paths, ponds,
shelter belts, swales, and other possible aspects of your edible forest landscape.
