Hunterian

The six-mile sponsored walk makes its way from Glasgow Vintage Vehicle Trust in the east end to Scotland's oldest museum, the Hunterian at Glasgow University, where finishers will be rewarded with pizza and prosecco.

Suitably fuelled, you'll be ready to spend a few hours in The Hunterian. Located on the University of Glasgow's campus, this is Scotland's oldest and, in my opinion, most underrated museum.

Pupils from nearby Carrbridge Primary School were on hand to help declare the Landmark Forest Adventure Park attraction Dinosaur Kingdom officially open, as the red ribbon across the colossal gates was chopped away by Dr Neil "Jurassic" Clark, the curator of palaeontology of the Hunterian Museum at the University of Glasgow.

The leading British institutions of this type--among them the Fitzwilliam, the Ashmolean (Oxford), the Hunterian Museum (Glasgow), the Whitworth Art Gallery (Manchester) and the Sainsbury Centre (UEA), to name just a few of the art galleries--attract tens and in some cases hundreds of thousands of visitors every year.

The Hunterian museum in Holborn holds all kinds of unsettling anatomical specimens in jars and is located at the Royal College of Surgeons.

Steph Scholten, director of The Hunterian which organised the exhibition, said he is "delighted" to welcome the fossil to Scotland.

Having exhibited his paintings and design drawings throughout Europe, he has also become one of the most collectable of contemporary artists/designers, with work in many prestigious public collections including the National Museum of Wales, the V&A in London, the Albertina, Vienna, Hunterian Museum, Glasgow, the Archive of L'Opera, Paris, and the Collection of the Metropolitan Opera House.

"We're delighted to be working in partnership with The Hunterian at the University of Glasgow to bring one of the three most complete tyrannosaurus rex skeletons ever discovered to the Kelvin Hall from April 18.

Throughout its rich history, the area has been home to the original Glasgow University and the Hunterian Museum.

Dr Neil Clark, author of Scottish Gold: Fruit of the Nation and curator at The Hunterian, University of Glasgow, believes the shape of the Douglas Nugget could mean there is more gold waiting to be found close to the mystery location.
