Apogonidae), the clingfish Alabes parvulus (Cheilobranchidae), and the glass knifefish Eigenmannia virescens (Sternopygidae) (Briggs, 1995; Ferraris, 1995; Johnson and Gill, 1995).

Apogonidae family, some characteristics are common amongst closely related genera and species, contributing to the understanding of the evolutionary reproductive history of this group (Fishelson & Gon, 2008).

Such a well-defined and striking ephemeral sexual dichromatism has not been previously reported in
Apogonidae. It is suggested that this trait developed in Q mirOca because of the reproductive advantage that it conferred to an apogonid possessing a marked solitary/cryptic behavior and an appropriate physiological mechanism suited for such rapid and dramatic color changes.
