Beardless barb, Cyclocheilichthys
apogon (Valenciennes, 1842) is a freshwater fish of importance as source of low-cost protein in Lower Mekong Region.
The three most dominant species were Cyclocheilichthys
apogon (48.2%) and Hampala macrolepidota (11.0%) from the family Cyprinidae and Hemibagrus planiceps (10.8%) from the family Bagridae.
Taxa in the small fish category were cardinalfish (
Apogon spp.); damselfish (Chromis spp.); small sea basses (Serranidae), including anthiids (Anthiinae); wrasses (Halichoeres spp.); and parrotfish (Labridae).
The lowest percentage of relative abundance among the species were Moolgarda sp., Doryichthys heterosoma, Exyrias puntang, Clarias batrachus, Sillago sihama, Antennarius sp.,
Apogon nigrofasciatus, and Sicyopterus extraneus.
