Newcastle University Boat Club were crowned BUCS Victor Ludorum champions for the second consecutive year.

The college's prestigious Victor Ludorum award was a perfect 20th birthday present for Anthony, who started at Telford College on the level two sport route - one of the courses run in conjunction with Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club.

And it was a successful time with six winning crews and numerous other fantastic performances which all contributed to Stirling finishing an incredible third place overall in the Victor Ludorum amongst the 81 competing clubs from around the UK and Ireland.

The Victor Ludorum, an award that takes into consideration both distance and fundraiser, was won by Adil Khawaja (Team AK44) in Car 44.

Paul Nicholls' Quel Destin ran out an excellent winner of the opener at Haydock, the William Hill Victor Ludorum Juvenile Hurdle, to enhance his credentials for the JCB Triumph at next month's Cheltenham Festival.

TURNING Gold (6-1) snatched the narrowest of victories to get off the mark in the Betfred TV Victor Ludorum Juvenile Hurdle at Haydock Park.
