Tommy Edgar, piano; Chloe Fanning, alto sax; Benjamin Hommowun, trumpet; and Benjamin Stolze, alto sax, were among 50 other musicians from around the country attending the Jazz II Session at Birch Creek.

Led by its founder, keyboardist and 19 East owner Wowee Posadas, the Black Cows personnel are Pido Lalimarmo (lead vocals, guitar), Bolichie Suzara (bass), Rancis de Leon (alto sax), Ronald Tomas (tenor sax), Archie Constantino (trumpet), Drizzle Muniz (vocals), Gail Viduya (vocals) and Gibson Viduya (drums).

With him were Mike Haralambos (guitar), John Beesley (bass), Ray Fowlis (alto sax), Ronnie Wilson (drums) and the late Colin Areety (singer).

Hancock and Shorter appear in the film, along with the sly, funny octogenarian Lou Donaldson (hailed as one of the greatest alto sax players ever), the genre-crossing Norah Jones, A Tribe Called Quest co-founder Ali Shaheed Muhammad, and longtime soundman Rudy Van Gelder, who engineered such legendary albums as A Love Supreme, Walkin', Colossus, and Song for My Father.

The quintet, created in September 2017 by saxophone professor George Krasidis, consists of students and collaborators of the Arte Music Academy in Nicosia (George Krasidis -- soprano/tenor sax, Achilleas Tomasidis -- alto/tenor sax, Nicholas Georgiou -- alto sax, Simos Tziakouris -- tenor sax, Aris Kyriakides -- baritone sax).

Their big ensemble is composed of nine pieces: Dennis Concepcion (drums, vocals), Alex Abundo (trumpet), Januarie Sundiang (percussions), Hiroki Ambo (bass), Randy Mercader (keyboards, vocals), Benjamin Perez (vocals), Nhoel Austria (lead guitars), Ian Sumagui (alto sax) and PJ Aguilar (tenor sax), together with their lead singer Dino Concepcion.

Complemented by pianist Gonzalez, drummers Shinnosuke Takahashi and Kyle Pool, bassist Eric Wheeler and trumpet player Keyon Harrold, Eric Wyatt showcases his mastery of the tenor sax, alto sax, and soprano sax, in addition to providing vocals with reverberant finesse.

So there followed improvisations from alto sax John O'Gallagher, pianist Hans Koller, double-bassist Sam Ingvorsen and drummist Gwilym Jones on extracts from Schoenberg and his pupil Anton Webern, all given with an acute awareness of structure and empathy towards each other.

There are many influences contained within, not least the use of alto sax and some memorable pizzicato (string plucking) from the double basses.

The group includes Rempel (guitars), Gus Russell (keys), John Polese (trumpet), Scott Mitchell (alto sax), Rick Carter (bass), Bruce Cole (drums) and Lorin Hawley (congas).

Julia, 52, plays alto sax with 15-piece band Sundown Swing while 11-year-old daughter Lauren sings with award-winning Lindley Junior School Choir.

Rawle is an alto sax and clarinet player and arranger with the West Midlands Light Orchestra.
