Pyong·yang
(pyŭng′yäng′, -yăng′, pyông′-) The capital and largest city of North Korea, in the southwest-central part of the country. It was an important cultural center and Chinese colony after 108 bc, later fell to the Japanese, and became capital of North Korea in 1948.
