More than six pages have been omitted from the original text beginning on page 130; the term Strajchpudlici (
pieceners) is rendered as "Hosenmatze" (small children); and when several nationalities are lumped together as "simply, Gypsies," it becomes the additive "and even Gypsies." The English translator changed the title of the novel, combining the names of its three parts as City Sister Silver instead of using the simpler original "Sister." Like the German translators, Alex Zucker preserves most of the author's linguistic inventiveness, although his attempts at colloquial equivalents occasionally sound too forced.
