[From palazzo in palazzo pajamas, an outfit consisting of a loose, flowing blouse and wide flaring pants (coined in 1960 by Diana Vreeland after the Palazzo Pitti, a Renaissance palazzo in Florence, Italy, where Russian-Georgian aristocrat and fashion designer Princess Irene Galitzine (1916-2006) staged fashion shows and first introduced such an outfit, and probably also after the Palazzo Pucci, a Renaissance palace in Florence and family home of Italian aristocrat and fashion designer Emilio Pucci (1914-1992), in which he operated his atelier and produced innovative designs influencing Galitzine).]
