bottom line The end result, the final outcome, the upshot; the net profit or loss of any transaction or undertaking, financial or otherwise. This accounting term for the final figure on a profit and loss statement has been incorporated into more general usage and extended in meaning as indicated above.

come out in the wash Work out for the best in the long run; turn out all right; become known. Just as dirt and stains are removed when clothes are washed, anything which hinders or serves to cloud the truth will be removed in the end.

spinoff A by-product or offshoot; a new company, invention, product, etc., that develops as a result of the success of a related, pre-existing concern. This expression has been popularized by its frequent application in the television industry to a new program centering around a supporting character from an already successful show. The expression also enjoys widespread use in the business and medical worlds.
