Around 2002, AGI initiated a cooperative venture with Geoscience Australia (the equivalent of the GSC) to create AusGeoRef, a subset of
GeoRef. The customized AusGeoRef is now available at a lower price than the larger
GeoRef, thus making it more attractive for smaller companies to buy a license.
Poole (1908) stated that the measured section was "published as an appendix in the first Report of Progress of the Geological Survey, for 1843, beginning at page 92, and extending to page 156, with figures on pages 157 to 159." By citing a rare offprint version of this report, rather than referring to its original place of publication in the Legislative Journal Appendices, Poole inadvertently obscured important information about the Canadian survey's early work; most of the geological literature in the last hundred years (even the
Georef database) reference the section using Poole's misleading citation.

The first in a line of planned online products and services serving academic and public libraries worldwide, the new service is described as a "multidisciplinary database" containing medical, reference, health, science, technical and regulatory sources, including such assets as The New England Journal of Medicine, Consumer Reports, Med- line,

The human population distribution of Ontario was obtained from
GeoRef 1996 Census (Statistics Canada), which is based on data collected from all households in the province.
This is a reasonable practice, as a geology database such as
GeoRef should index only articles that are relevant to the study of geology and ignore the others.

The digital geographic data collected were mostly in one of the four projections: the geographic latitude/longitude coordinate system, the Michigan Stareplane Coordinate system (North zone), the Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) projection (zones 15, 16, and 17), and the Michigan
GeoRef coordinate system.
