Stat·en Island
(stăt′n) A borough of New York City coextensive with Staten Island in New York Bay in southeast New York southwest of Manhattan Island. The island was settled by the Dutch in the 1600s and became part of New York City in 1898. The borough was officially named Richmond until 1975.
