(sə-dăt′, -dät′), (Muhammad) Anwar el- 1918-1981. Egyptian politician. President of Egypt (1970-1981), he shared the 1978 Nobel Peace Prize with Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin for negotiations that led to a 1979 peace treaty. Sadat was assassinated by radical Islamic fundamentalists.
