If the pigmented lesion has crossed vermilion border, a punch biopsy is preferred aligned vertically and the margins must be painted with gentian violet to avoid misalignment while closing the defect.6
Consequently, the lip border (vermilion border) becomes less clear and the lips may gradually become scaly and indurated.
Other characteristic oral findings include the reduced vertical dimension of the lower face, disappearance of the vermilion border, malformed teeth, the oral mucosa becomes dry, xerostomia and the lips become prominent.
