Swine vesicular disease virus/Porcine enterovirus infection (OIE, 2012)
"Welsh Government officials, Defra and the Scottish Government are currently working on new regulations to update and consolidate the existing legislation for Classical Swine Fever, African Swine Fever and
Swine Vesicular Disease. Any 'lessons learned' from the exercise can be taken into account for the new legislation.
The United States also agreed to publish a proposed rule by April 16, 2010, to recognize the State of Santa Catarina as free of foot-and-mouth disease, rinderpest, classical swine fever, African swine fever, and
swine vesicular disease, based on World Organization for Animal Health guidelines and to complete a risk evaluation that is currently underway and identify appropriate risk mitigation measures to determine whether fresh beef can be imported from Brazil while preventing the introduction of foot-and-mouth disease in the United States.
We also warn that pigs are susceptible to a wide range of exotic notifiable diseases, including Foot and Mouth Disease, Classical Swine Fever and
Swine Vesicular Disease."
There are nine genera of picornaviruses: Enterovirus (poliovirus,
swine vesicular disease, coxsackievirus (which causes hand-foot-and-mouth disease in humans), and enterovirus A), Rhinovirus (human and bovine rhinoviruses), Hepatovirus (hepatitis A virus), Aphthovirus (foot-and-mouth disease virus in cattle), Cardiovirus (encephalomyocarditis virus in mice), Erbovirus (equine rhinitis B virus), Kobuvirus (Aichi kobuvirus), Teschovirus (porcine teschovirus), and Parechovirus (human parechovirus, which was formerly known as Echovirus 22 and 23).
The IAH's research focuses on diseases in cattle, sheep, horses and pigs including FMD, lumpy skin disease, rinderpest, African swine fever,
swine vesicular disease, equine encephalosis and sheep and goat pox.
It also houses a reference lab which specialises in the diagnosis of diseases including African horse sickness,
Swine vesicular disease - and foot and mouth disease.
