Ukulele legend Phil Doleman will be running a Jug Band Workshop in the Clubhouse at Melrose Hall on Saturday.

"I kinda thought of us as a jug band," the current-day Dylan reflects on this tour, 40 years past.

ITALIAN duo Veronica Sbergia & Max De Bernardi play country blues and ragtime, hokum, jug band and rural music of the American Deep South from the 20s and 30s reinterpreting great songs by the likes of Big Bill Broonzy, Memphis Minnie, Jimmie Rodgers, Sidney Bechet, Lucille Bogan, Bo Carter and the Delmore Brothers in their own unique style.

Liam is a winner of the National Harmonica League Player of the Year, and fronts his own band, The Liam Ward Band, as well as playing with the Rumblestrutters and The Jake Leg Jug Band among others.

Grateful Dead, who started life as a jug band when the members of Warlock and Mother McCree's Jug Band pooled resources, were certainly eclectic, dipping into music from country, blues, jazz, bluegrass, folk and, of course, rock.

While living in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in the seminal early 1960s, he met, befriended and played with the likes of Joan Baez, Geoff Muldaur, Jim Kweskin (of Jim Kweskin Jug Band fame), Ramblin' Jack Elliott, Tom Rush and many more (some of whom later visited and played with him here as well).

Sesame Street Makes Music features six classic songs kids can play including a reggae version of "If You're Happy and You Know It," and a jug band rendition of "Old MacDonald." Kids can play songs with the band in the Sesame Street concert hall or explore a variety of instruments on their own.

I forget what we called ourselves but remember our greatest accomplishment was adding a song by the Coasters to the canon established by the Jim Kweskin Jug Band and Dave Van Ronk and the Ragtime Jug Stompers (an ensemble whose lone LP was another early purchase).

From his early days in the Cambridge, Massachusetts-based Jim Kweskin Jug Band (he was a founder member) to his time in the Paul Butterfield Better Days Band, he then released a couple of albums with his (then) wife, Maria, for Warner Brothers -- Pottery Pie and Sweet Potatoes.
