Other freeloading species of fishes that have been observed following these two goatfishes include groupers of the genera Cephalopholis, Epinephelus, and Variola, larger species of the labrid genera Halichoeres and Thalassoma, turkeyfishes (Pterois spp.),
Cornetfish (Fistularia commersonii), and Trumpetfish (Aulostomus chinensis).
Beaked parrot fish, pretty butterfly fish, torpedo-shaped
cornetfish, grumpy stonefish, striped bannerfish, little coralfish, spiny lionfish...
"The results show a clear ecological impact when alien species either become dominant, like pufferfish, or are piscivores, like barracuda and
cornetfish. It is evident that the food chain is being restructured, but the lack of previous studies limited our conclusions," said Kalogirou.
Common species include surgeonfish, triggerfish, hawkfish,
cornetfish, flagtails, goatfish, parrotfish and groupers.
