I felt humbled and rejuvenated by the majestic and ancient Sequoia sempervirens (one of the gigantic trees is 1400 years old!), commonly known as the coast redwood. here is an 800-acre tribute to the powers of the natural world, located just miles from Guerneville's Main Street, (sonomacounty.com/articles/armstrong-redwoods)

Many of the trees are thought to date back to the period 1860 - 1896 and include little seen conifer species such as Coast Redwood, known as the tallest trees in the world, and Western Hemlock, as well as traditional and ancient oak and ash trees.

Giant sequoia are the largest living trees on Earth and exist in only 73 groves scattered along the western slope of California's Sierra Nevadas--the last remnants of a vast Sequoiadendron giganteum forest that, along with coast redwood ancestors, covered much of the northern hemisphere.

The McApin Tree is 1,640 years old, the oldest known coast redwood south of Mendocino County.
