The highest dam in China is the Jinping-I Dam at 305 metres, an
arch dam, which is also the tallest dam in the world.
The reservoir, behind the 50-year-old Gebidem
arch dam, is fed by the Aletsch Glacier, the longest in Europe.
The project, commissioned in 1976, has a reservoir that holds water behind a 138-metre dam on side and an
arch dam on another.
Lijiaxia Hydropower Station is a large hydropower project on the Yellow River upstream, and the dam is a double-curvature
arch dam with three-centered arc.
The current tallest dam is the 305m-tall Jinping-I Dam, a concrete
arch dam on the Jinping bend of the Yalong River in Liangshan, Sichuan, China.
I spent several years in South Africa where I was in a senior position building a 110m high concrete double curvature
arch dam and hydro electric power station on the Orange river.
The 13-mile ride on a batterypowered e-bike from the mountain resort to the monumental Mauvoisin

That was later replaced with a thirty-nine-foot gravity
arch dam in 1927, which Ketchikan Power Utility purchased in 1957.
