The Bilberry
Rock goat herd, which graze on a cliff-top overlooking Waterford city, are believed to have arrived on the east coast with French settlers, the Huguenots.
The chamois is a small, hook-horned goat of the Old World (Rupicapra rupicapra, literally "
rock goat").
Our goat is remotely related to the
rock goats of Europe and Asia--the widely distributed chamois and the lesser-known goral--but has no close relatives anywhere in the world.
