Hoveler as early as 1892 (see Baylis, 1975) that plant species without root hairs were the most consistently VA-mycorrhizal, a hypothesis that has since been corroborated by a few workers (Metsavainio, 1931; Baylis, 1975).

Hoveler, Jr., saw as 'probably the most important twentieth-century critic of Dewey,' found in Dewey far too many signature elements of the liberal creed." The exposition of Dewey is on the whole accurate and sympathetic.
