Turbidity measured this way uses an instrument called a turbidimeter with the detector set up to the side of the light beam.
Turbidity was measured with a Nova Organica HD 114 turbidimeter. The color parameters L, a* and b* were determined using a CR-400 Minolta colorimeter, and readings were obtained in the CIEL*a*b* scale.
By using the basic equipment like a turbidimeter or visually using a UV light, the real time detection can be performed and thus suitable for the laboratories lacking specialized infrastructure.
Temperature (digital thermometer-CE[R]), pH (pH meter AT-315-Alfakit[R]), dissolved oxygen (oximeter AT-170-Afakit[R]), conductivity (conductivimeter AT-230-Alfakit[R]) and turbidity (turbidimeter AP2000-PolyControl[R]) were monitored daily in the experimental units.
It was noted that obtaining results for an initially non-dispersive Vertisol subject to MQSS was much more subjective than for a soil that was spontaneously dispersive; without the direct use of a turbidimeter. Therefore, it was hypothesised that the observational method could be misleading.
For water physical parameters like color were determined by using Hellige aqua tester, turbidity was determined by using a calibrated turbidimeter unit, total suspended solids (TSS) and total dissolved solids (TDS) according to standard method as given by Eaton et al., (2005).
