The United Nations Mine Action Coordination Center found the following types of American made cluster bomb
submunitions: 559 M-42's, an anti-personnel bomblet that is used in 105-millimeter artillery shells, 663 M-77's, a type of
submunition found in M-26 rockets, and 5 BLU-63's, a type of bomblet found in CBU-26 cluster bombs.
Sensor-Fuzed Weapon (CBU 97/B): An air-launched anti-armor weapon system, each dispenser contains ten BLU-108/B
submunitions. Each
submunition carries four SKEET anti-armor warheads.
The weapon can be configured to carry one of two types of warheads at a time: a 1,000-pound blast/fragmentary unitary warhead, and a general-purpose
submunition dispenser with combined-effect bomblets.
An internal fuse tells each
submunition when to detonate--either "above ground, at impact, or in a delayed mode." (35)
Submunitions generally have an anti-tank, anti-material, or anti-personnel function.
The antiarmor
submunition, known as the Bat, is a 36-inch-long 5.5-inch-diameter unpowered projectile that uses a nose-mounted infrared sensor and four spike-borne acoustic sensors to home in on ground targets.
