Lady Galliard describes the hero as "a Rakeshame, who have not esteem enough for the [female] Sex to believe your own Mother honest--without Money or Credit, without Land either in present or in prospect; and half a dozen hungry Vices, like so many bawling Brats at your back, perpetually craving, and more chargeable to keep than twice the number of Children" (4.1.134-39).
