She said that in line with the EU directives, starting from 2025, EU member states will have to ensure collection of used textile articles, therefore Eco Baltia Vide and Latvijas Zalais Punkts have launched a pilot project in order to assess possible development of textile sorting infrastructure in Latvia.

It plans to pass it at its September session in order for the pilot project to be launched on November 1, 2019.

"In this pilot project, artificial reservoirs are being created on the Yamuna floodplains of one-metre depth, in which floodwater will be collected.

The 3Rs pilot project will be implemented at all the city corporation areas across the country in phases, if the pilot project turned out to be successful, the minister explained.
