While Western Pond Turtle nesting sites can be as far as 400 m from water (Storer 1930; Holland 1991a, 1991b; Rathbun and others 1992), females in our study moved on average 24.4 m (s = 17.5 m) to oviposit on south-facing slopes with mean aspects of 134[degrees] (s = 31.9[degrees]).
The larvae of aphidophagous hoverflies are peripatetic and active predator of aphids that's why the female prefer to oviposit near aphid colonies (Sadeghi and Gilbert, 2000).
Low flow areas of streams provide stable substrate (Bispo et al., 2004) and leaf material for larval consumption and case building, thus is an ideal location for adult females to oviposit and larvae to inhabit.
Bark beetles are known for attacking diseased, weakened or recently dead trees to which they are attracted, and for making galleries in the tree trunk inside which they develop, breed, and oviposit (RAFFA et al., 2015).
We consider it atypical for females to oviposit far from the water (i.e., not on riparian vegetation or riparian substrates on or adjacent to the water).
This result is in agreement whith that observed by Daniel (2014), in that females of Rhagoletis cerasi(L.) (Diptera: Tephritidae) changed their oviposition and spent more time trying to oviposit on fruits treated with rapeseed oil and Naturalis-L[R], a biocontrol product which contains oil as formulant.
