Ascites was found to be the most commonly associated clinical finding with alcohol-related disorders while gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms like
melaena, hematemesis, gastritis was also found in most patients.
Generally, GORD does not lead to major complications, but the presence of less common symptoms is a red flag for further investigation: dysphagia (difficulty swallowing), painful swallowing, persistent vomiting, haematemesis or
melaena (blood in vomit or stool), anaemia, unexplained weight loss or new onset of persistent symptoms in people aged over 55.
