A 67-year-old male with a history of complicated open prostatectomy requiring
enterectomy with anastomosis presented with profuse black tarry stools.
The patient underwent bronchofibroscopy and an exploratory laparoscopy with
enterectomy. The cytology of the bronchial aspirate and histology of the ileal
enterectomy were consistent with squamous cell carcinoma of the lung with intestinal metastasis, respectively (Figure 2a, 2b, respectively).
We performed an
enterectomy, about 20 cm of ileum, and an end-ileostomy with a mucous fistula on the distal ileum, saline lavage, four drainages, and a laparostomy.
These conditions often require exploratory laparotomy, rumenotomy, diaphragmatic herniorrhaphy, abomasotomy,
enterectomy and anastomosis.
A radical
enterectomy was performed with an end-to-end manual anastomosis together with partial pelvic peritonectomy and the placement of one abdominal drain tube.

The hepatic IOUS was performed in all dogs with liver or spleen tumors; splenic IOUS was performed in dog number 5 due to lesions were not identified by the surgeon despite visible by preoperative transabdominal ultrasonography; and intestinal IOUS was performed in dog number 4 to help define margins for
enterectomy.
