Analgesic medications--acetaminophen (Tylenol) and medications that combine acetaminophen, aspirin, and caffeine (for example, Excedrin)--put you at greater risk for rebound headaches than NSAIDs such as ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) and naproxen (Aleve,
Naprosyn).
If your pain is more intense, though, your doctor may prescribe a stronger anti-inflammatory like Celebrex or
Naprosyn. But be aware that extended use of these drugs, whether OTC or prescription, can create other health risks.
Over-the-counter NSAIDS include aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, and others), and naproxen (
Naprosyn and others).
It was reported yesterday that the contract has been signed for Sabal to be the primary laboratory marketer of
Naprosyn, the branded naproxen oral suspension USP.
Premarin from Ayerst Laboratories, Wellbutrin from Burroughs Wellcome, Motrin from Upjohn,
Naprosyn from Syntex and Sumycin and Kenalog from Bristol Myers Squibb, among many, many others, were commonly prescribed and publicly recognized.
They include anti-seizure medications (such as Depakote and Topamax), beta blockers (such as Inderal LA and Betimol), tricyclic antidepressants, (particularly amitriptyline and nortriptyline), Botox injections, and certain nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications, especially
Naprosyn.
Among the drugs used to treat acute attacks are colchicine (trade name Colcrys), Indocin,
Naprosyn, and Kineret.
Acetaminophen, as compared to nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen (Advil) or naproxen (
Naprosyn), does not cause stomach problems or kidney damage and usually does not interfere with most other medications or disease processes.
The current available evidence does not prove that the painkiller naproxen, sold under the brand names Aleve and
Naprosyn, carries a lower cardiac risk than rival products.
If these do not work, some might try pharmaceutical medicines such as NSAIDS (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs; the most common medications used for chronic pain), such as Ibuprofen/Motrin,
Naprosyn, and Celebrex.
NSAIDs such as
Naprosyn, Nalfon and Trilisate, which are useful for moderate to severe pain.
