Gray's fifth form of atheism is misotheism, or a hatred of God as the enemy of humanity.

Friedrich Nietzsche in Beyond Good and Evil says "there is a feminine tenderness and sensuality in [the passion for God]." (1) There is a some truth to what Nietzsche is writing here despite his inherent misogynism and misotheism. The relation of the Church to God is depicted using a bride-bridegroom analogy in scripture.

These findings suggest that anger toward God may result in a loss of faith, perhaps even misotheism, a recent term denoting a belief system of hatred toward God (Holmes, 2000; Schweizer, 2010).
