The Refining Sector: Refined oil products for local use and for export are processed at the two refineries, which have a total capacity of 237,000 b/d and are located at Seidi (formerly
Chardzhou) and Turkmenbashi (which used to be known as Krasnovodsk).
Other large cities include
Chardzhou (195,000), Tashauz (140,000), Mary (115,000), and Nebit-Dag (105,000).
The TAGP was to begin in Turkmenistan near
Chardzhou and, after exiting Uzbekistan, will run along the south Kazakh border towards Almaty and cross into China east of there.
The 1,040-mile-long oil pipeline would begin near the town of
Chardzhou, in northern Turkmenistan, and extend southeasterly through Afghanistan to an export terminal that would be constructed on the Pakistan coast on the Arabian Sea.
It is connected with the nearby town of
Chardzhou by road and rail and is available for use by the research teams.
