Brachycome

We are talking about all those vibrant bedding plants such as French and African marigolds, lobelia, cleome, busy lizzies, petunias, zinnias, gazanias, cosmos, molucella, felicia, helichrysum, brachycome and amaranthus, all of which can be grown inexpensively from seed.

In the world of summer bedding, our borders and baskets have quite a number, including tagetes, bidens, helichrysum, ageratum, cosmos, brachycome, felicia and gazania.

Plants such as Bidens ferulaefolia, the swan river daisy, Brachycome, the Lotus berthelotii with claw-shaped, dark red flowers and needle-like silver leaves, and plants with cool foliage as a foil, like Helichrysum petiolare, are all available in garden centres.

Over 350 varieties of flowers have been put on display at the exhibition that has flowers like roses, marigolds, geranium and brachycome and celosia.

For a blue feel to the border, then I always select Brachycome iberidifolia "Purple Splendour".

The following all give a good cascade of flowers - nasturtium, surfinia petunia, trailing verbena, ivy leaf geranium, lobelia, and lysimachia and brachycome.

The brachycome or Swan River daisy, from the Antipodes, with smaller but more numerous blooms, is available in an increasing selection.

Those which will make a semi-shaded spot look brighter include the daisy-like brachycome and felicia, lobelia and nepeta.
