Other flavorful barks worth cultivating include the cinnamon-flavored CAROLINA ALLSPICE (Calycanthus floridus; the only part considered safe to eat is the inner bark, so caution is advised); SWEET BIRCH (
Betula lenta); and SHAGBARK HICKORY (Carya ovata).

Other commercial birches of note from North America include black, sweet and cherry birch (
Betula lenta), which grows mainly in the Adirondacks, and river birch or red river birch (Betula nigra).
