(än-yā′zē), Maria Gaetana 1718-1799. Italian mathematician and philosopher whose major work, Analytical Institutions (1748), was the first comprehensive summary of the state of mathematical analysis. It brought together the work of authors writing in various languages, formulated new mathematical methods, and was widely used as a textbook for many years.
